Gary Maahs, UTE HARING'S PRESSESCHAU SERIES (Part 5)

                 Presseschau 5

In the case of Presseschau 5, the colored element printed above the black and white image, shows a minesweeper. A soldier, in khaki color, that is, who is holding on to a mine detector.
The sujet is evocative of the girl with the pole to which a toy duck is attached.
The black and white background shows an astonished - or horrified - onlooker, sitting in the dunes or maybe, at the roadside.
The open mouthed figure may be a woman. Or a man. But horror has brought to sight its essential, vital, almost animalic quality. Clinging to life, like it was a last straw. Terrified. Puzzled. Terrified.
